May’s birthstone is the deep green emerald, a precious stone symbolising fertility, rebirth, and growth. Due to its calming color, emerald is also associated with wisdom, reflection and peace. The name originates from Greek ‘smaragdus’ via the old French ‘esmeraud’ simply meaning ‘green gem’. Traditionally seen as precious gifts dating back to Ancient times emeralds were allegedly favoured by Queen Cleopatra. Embellishing the gold necklace of this elegant petite figure a vibrant green Swarovski® crystal represents an emerald reflected in the bright green floral detail of her gown.
